I am trying to copy some 8mm video tapes to a PC. I have tried various 'video grabbers' with no success.
Using my old camcorder and RCA phono connectors to a TV that plays whatever is on the tape. My question
is if taking a HDMI connection cable from this TV to a HDMI to USB converter, and then into a PC. Would this work?
Any advice or input greatly appreciated

8mm cameras often have a firewire port. Have you considered buying a firewire card to move fies to your PC?

Hi kanewolf, mine doesn't have a firewire it only has RCA or S-video connections. I was hoping to copy off the TV via hdmi and then convert to USB. Before I purchase a lead just wanted to see if it would work. Thanks for your input.

There are not many TVs that have an HDMI OUT capability.
You tried a device like this -- https://www.amazon.com/August-VGB100-External-Composite-Transfer/dp/B008F0SARC and it failed?
That is definitely the most obvious method.

Hi, I have tried various video grabbers. One, old GeeBee 2 works but on an old O.S. Even back compatibility will not make it work on a modern O.S. and the SilverCrest (Lidl), supposed to work on Win 10 but no, and one I tried bought from Amazon that could said it could work on a Mac or Win. All came to nothing. As I have about 30 tapes getting them copied professionally is too cost prohibitive. I will keep trying.
