Hello, I've been doing some research on upgrading to a new graphics card, but i seem to be going around in circles with motherboard and power supply compatibility, and its giving me a hard time with finding a card. I am open to all solutions, suggestions, research references, etc.

My computer is mainly used for gaming, ideally looking for hardware that can hold me off for another few years, and i accept the fact that i may need to be looking at a whole new rig. my budget is very loosely $150 for this particular item.

The games that are currently unplayable are Fallout 4, Just Cause 3, and Dying Light. you will also see that my RAM is also lacking, I'm also upgrading that. The point of this thread isn't RAM but any suggestions/advice for some good value DDR2 ram will also be appreciated.

Specs. ( please say if im missing anything )
GPU - Geforce GTX 460 768MB
Power Supply - Corsair TX650W
Motherboard - MSI 790XT-G45
RAM - Mushkin Silverline 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2
CPU - AMD phenom ii x4 940
Resolution - 1080 x 1920

My current thinking is that i want good value with the Geforce 750 TI, it was suggested as a good value product, here on this website, so ive been trying to use it as a comparison for other cards. but im not sure, or i dont think that it is compatible. according to this site, which i cant say is accurate or not.

Here it says my power supply should be okay. And if i didn't misread, PSI connections are backwards compatible, and a 3.0 connection should work on a 2.0. (please confirm)

Now im in this position where i have to try and find accurate performance benchmarking, or comparision with the Geforce 750 TI. Any website i try is riddled with comments about how off said benchmark is, or that the numbers dont represent what happens while actually playing a game very well.

Backtracking a little - According to pc-specs.com, i can use most Nvidia models going from 600 series and downwards, but doesnt say much about AMD cards. Now im having a hard time judging how each of these cards will perform, how they compare to the 750 TI, and the value for their price.

Ive been using this website as a starting point for finding value with the cards.

I guess the next step down would be the 650 Ti, but it is an increase in price, for a decrease in performance. and im also not sure if its compatible with my motherboard, ugh. 660's, 670's, 680's and 690's, are generally out of my budget, from what ive found.

Summary questions : is the 750 TI compatible, and/or how can i find out for sure. Are there any performace benchmarking sites that you have found to be reliable. what sites would give me reliable information on motherboard compatibilities. What do you think about the 650 Ti suggestion/compatibility. Any other advice, suggestions etc. Are very welcomed! thank you and sorry for the long read.

Here's a good website for comparing actual GPU benchmarks:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/GPU14/815
It doesn't have all of the newest ones, but it has a great selection and makes it easy to compare.
The 750 ti is a fine card, but it's main appeal is that it doesn't use much power. Since you already have a GTX 460, you can handle a more powerful card. The GTX 950 is significantly more powerful and often costs about the same as the 750 ti. It would be a much better option for you.
If you are interested in AMD cards, The R7 270 or R7 370 are between the GTX 750 ti and 950 in performance. The do use more power, but your system can handle it.
