After a lot of years, I'm starting to consider building a gaming PC. Could you advise if the following configuration would be decent for a mid-range gaming PC, or if something could be improved?

Intel Core i5 8600k socket 1151 v2
Gigabyte B360 HD3 1151
Kingston HyperX FURY DDR4 DIMM 8 GB 2666 MHz
Samsung PM961 NVMe M.2 128GB
Case Sharkoon VS4-S black
Sharkoon SHP650 v2
Scythe Kozuti cooler
Seagate Barracuda 2TB
INNO3D GTX1060 3GB Twin X2

Any advice/feedback would be highly appreciated :)

PS: forgot to mention that my budged is 1000 Euros excluding monitor, mouse and keyboard.

Thank you :)

Getting a 8600K with a non Z370 motherboard is pointless since you wont be able to overclock the CPU. Either spend a little more and get a Z370 motherboard or save money and drop down to a i5-8400. If you do get a Z370 motherboard I would also suggest getting 3000mhz or faster RAM.

Another thing regarding RAM is buy it in dual channel kits, meaning for 8GBs the ones sold as a pair of 4GB sticks.

Regarding your SSD, I would really suggest at least a 250 GB or up. You can get a SAMSUNG 860 EVO for alittle over 100 dollars and it woudl be money better spend. You don't really need PCIe speed NVMe SSDs for most task especially gaming, just get the normal SATA speed drives.

Get a better cooler, on the cheap end a Coolermaster Hyper 212 or Cryorig H7 would be a good option.

Get a different PSU, that one is trash. If you need a cheap PSU get something like a Corsair CX550 (not the green text version) or CX550m.

Ok to utilise the (k) overclockng features you need a Z370 motherboard. If you are not overclocking you may want to look at the cheaper i5 8400.

Is that RAM 2x4gb? You want 2 sticks so the system can run in dual channel. If you were thinking of adding another 8gb later then it is worth noting that usually this works ok but there is a chance that RAM not bought as a matched kit won’t together properly.

The 3gb version of the 1060 isn’t a great choice, not only does it have a low amount of 3gb VRAM but it has less gpu cores than the 6gb version so is a weaker card. If you can stretch to a 1060 6gb I would.

Ehy, thank you for the fast answers :)

I can't go over 1000 Euro budget, but I got all your feedbacks and I really appreciate the help :)

Considering that at this stage I'm not so interested in overclocking, what do you think of this configuration:

Intel Core i5 8400 1151 187,90 Euro
Gigabyte B360 HD3 1151 101 Euro
Crucial Ballistix Sport LT DDR4 DIMM 8 GB - 2 x 4 GB 2400MHz 99.90 Euro
Samsung 860 EVO 250GB SATA 76.99 Euro
Case Sharkoon VS4-S black 32.90 Euro
Corsair CX550M 74.90 Euro
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 36.99 Euro
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 69.99 Euro
EVGA GTX 1060 SC GAMING 6 GB 314 Euro

994.57 Euro

I also included prices, to give you guys an idea of what I found (local stores, maybe order online would save me money but I'm a bit reluctant since I don't really know online shops anymore and I don't know which ones can be trusted - any advice on this is highly appreciated too. I currently live in the Netherlands, in Holland)
