Does anyone have a good suggestion for an upgrade? I have a 9800xt on agp in a computer that is probably going to be just fine for a couple of more years. I tried an x1600 and it really sucks, much worse than the card I already have. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Nvidia's 6800GS. Look at the charts of a 6800GT and X1600

Comparison

I have bought two BFG 6800GS's and have unlocked 4 extra pipelines and 1 vertex shader (using rivatuner). They are just like a 6800GT except they are 400Mhz not 350Mhz and 1100Mhz not 1000Mhz:)

6800GS is around $200
7800GS is around $300

I just got an evga 7800gs OC for $200 + tax last night new from Circuit City, with some contortions to get it down that far. ~$220 is a little easier to do, $245 is simple. Check my other two posts today to this forum, or go directly to fatwallet for my description. Some of those people are so clueless they don't even know how hot this is, some jokers are marking the deal negative.

Heck if you would have just said $250 then I would have been right saying around $300:) If one would just round to the hundredths:)

Well, I did pay $11 tax too, so you are officially right :)

Even if you can't swing this deal like I did for $199 -- plus tax ;) -- it's still probably a matter of time before another one comes in at that price point. Maybe 2 months? I imagine ATI has to bring the 850xt AGP price down too, they can't keep overcharging for the AGP interface now that they no longer have a monopoly on the upper end. The 7800 has already come down a lot from it's $400 launch in early Feb. nVidia & it's downmarket distributers wisely realized people'ld never pay that, that'd be almost enough to upgrade to a good PCI-E mb+card instead. Down towards $200 the 7800gs actually starts looking good onthe price/performance curve. Especially if you're like me & have a quiet PC -- the 7800gs is really a 7800 PCI-E card running through a PCIE->AGP bridge, and with somepipelines shut off, etc. because of lower power delivery through AGP slot. But as a consequence the card runs cooler (and so quieter) too.
