If that SSD is replacing the system disk then the best thing would be to create an image of the current drive and then with a bootable restore media, restore the disk image(s) to the new SSD. Changing volume sizes as appropriate.

If thisis to replace the current OS drive, you need to get an OS on there in some fashion.

Either a clone operation or a fresh install on this new drive.
