Possibly, the installation media is corrupted in some way. If, when the installation is halted in that way, it is shut it's "waiting" to be fixed by finding a missing file, you may be able to download those files and when installation prompts to show location, you could add it and continue. If however, the installation halts without a prompt for the missing files, the simplest method may to install the entire program from another source- for example download the whole program from Adobe (After Effects CS6 appears to be about 800MB on C:\ ) and install from download or ISO?

One suggestion I have seen is to run a cleaner tool from Adobe and then try installing again. What version of AE are you trying to install?

That's a very good point as Adobe doesn't like to find remnants of earlier versions or incomplete installations.
