After installing Razer Synapse all the icons disappeared

I bought a new Razer keyboard, the X Chroma and with it I installed Razer Synapse. After I installed it I got an offer to install a premium version of Razer Surround, which I did. After that installed, all my icons on the desktop or anywhere, really, disappeared.
I've tried to restart explorer, reboot my pc, nothing worked.

I contacted Microsoft about this issue, one of their technicians was on my PC for 3 hours, finally he said some of my files were corrupted and proceeded to replace the windows files with new ones which finally fixed everything.

Keep a full system backup (system image) in future like I do. You should always have a full OS recovery strategy in place.
Full system recovery from a backup image on my PC takes just 8 minutes, how long would it take you?

What will you do to recover your system when the hard drive fails?
