After installing the ASRock 970A-G motherboard the PC seems to have locked itself after booting up. The lights on the keyboard will be illuminated but we can't seem to toggle it off when hitting Num Lock etc. Worst of all there seems to be no signal transmitting to the monitor. We have tried using two different GPUs with both HDMI and VGA into different PCI-E slots and still no luck. We have re-seated the ram, power cords, and CPU as well. If you guys have any idea on what could be wrong please post. P.S. Everything operated fine prior to replacing the Mobo.

Thats what you should do put a hdd on the new one install windows on it.

You dont have to format it before you put it in the new system

You can format/delete partitions when you boot from the flash drive or windows dvd, when you get to the windows setup screen on the new system

The BIOS doesnt need a hdd to get into it its not windows. .

Windows and the BIOS are 2 totally different things. Windows is software the BIOS is hardware / part of the mobo

You reboot if its going and press the del key to get into it. Read the mobo manual it'll tell you

Sorry but the only thing I can recall about the MB was that it's an MSI FX for the AMD FX6300. The wattage usage it was is identical to the current one so our 500W PSU should be able to handle it.

I do have one question though about your solution: "Windows is still trying to boot up using the drivers for the old mb. You need to remove the old MB drivers before replacing the MB."

How can I remove the old MB drivers or preferably perform a clean install of Windows without even being able to access my bios or have my peripherals (keyboard, mouse and monitor) respond to me? The monitor is not detecting a PC present where the mouse and keyboard just lights up but it is not taking in any inputs.

Can you boot the Windows installation media? If so, you can do a clean install from that and that should take care of the old drivers. Otherwise, you might have to re-install the old motherboard, at least until you get the old drivers off. It is also possible that the new mb is faulty.

The old MB is damaged. Can I reformat the HDD in another computer, then hook it up to this new MB (which is the ASRock 970A-G/3.1) and reinstall Windows from there?

Also is it possible to boot to the bios of the AsRock MB without a hard drive?
