After installing Windows 7 my laptop wont startup

Hi everyone,
Just installed windows 7 a few days ago and since then i have been unable to startup my laptop. It switches on and goes to the part where it says starting windows and then it makes the startup noise but then it just goes to a black blank screen and I am unable to login. Im only on it now through safe mode. Was wondering if anyone has been through this or has any ideas on how to fix this problem.

I had this problem, so I pressed F8 and started windows in VGA 640X480, then changed the resolution to the maximum
my screen would take. When I restarted the desktop appeared.
