After swapping GPUs my computer wont recognize a gpu in slot anymore

So I picked up a new gpu from a buddy, I knew it was good and we pulled it out of his old rig and I took it home to put in mine, shut everything off and plugged in the new gpu without uninstalling any drivers because someone had reccomended that I did not need to since I was going from a 980ti to a rtx2080.

Well the gpu was not getting recognized so I plugged in a monitor to the onboard graphics since the computer still posted, I downloaded DDU and ran it and after restarting I still could not get a display to work with the gpu, the lights come on and the fans are going but nothing is being detected so I could not install drivers. I attempted to put in my old gpu again but it would not be detected either. I put a soundcard into the PCI slot to see if it was still working and it is so I have no idea why my computer is not detecting gpus anymore

I have reset the CMOS battery
Used different power cables from my psu to make sure it is powered correctly
Made sure my mobo bios is up to date

It seems that when looking in the BOIS of the motherboard if I have something in the slot it shows up, but if I put a gpu in it says not available, if that helps

Unfortunately I can not check another PCI slot due to my liquid cooling on my cpu being in the way, but I did check the slot with a different kind of card to make sure it was still getting data

Anyone have any further suggestions as to why this is happening? I appreciate any help that can be given

EVGA nex 7500, 750 watts so I am pretty sure it has enough power to run the 2080, but even if it didn't I am no longer able to detect even my 980ti after swapping that back to see what happened.

Try swapping the pcie slot? putting the gpu in the other slot.

"Unfortunately I can not check another PCI slot due to my liquid cooling on my cpu being in the way, but I did check the slot with a different kind of card to make sure it was still getting data"

just skimmed, well anyways my best guess

As the soundcard was detected its not a hardware issue so its GOT to be MB software.

Instead of just removing the CMOS battery, consult the MB manual and find the CMOS Jumper to clear it that way. If the motherboard has particularly good capacitors it could last several minutes without the battery in.

The best way to be sure would be to change some settings, clear the CMOS, then when you go back into BIOS check the settings have been restored to default.

When I pulled the cmos I waited a good ten or so minutes and held the power button for 30 seconds, I know it reset because instead of booting line normal it took me to the bios to confirm how I booted and from which drive

Ok i would next suggest if you havent done this already, you clear the CMOS again but when you boot this time have your HDMI in the GPU and not the MB so it doesnt default to onboard graphics when it boots.

Other than that im at a loss sorry.

Unfortunately I have tried that as well with zero luck, but thank you
