What do most people do when their contract ends? I have a one year contract
ending this August. I heard that I might get switched to a month-by-month
billing basis, with no more contract from that point on. Is this true?

If I actually will be switched to a monthly basis with no contract, and want
to stay with verizon, is it best just to stay monthly until there is a
promotion that is worth getting back on a contract for? What is advised that
I do? I will be staying with verizon. Will they hit me up for an activation
fee again if I get another 1 year contract?

Any advise on the preceeding questions would be appreciated!

You don't have to do anything. You will just be on a month to month service
basically. If there isn't a new phone you want or a new plan promo, then
don't do anything. There is no activation fees on existing accounts, so you
will not have that when you decide to do anything.

When I originally signed on for service I had Digital Northeast 200 on the
car with nothing but free Voice Mail, 3 way calling, call forwarding, no
answer transfer etc. On my hand held I had (I still have the original
contract with my papers) Free Nights & Weekends for life, Enhanced Voice
Mail, and the calling features and it was for 550 minutes w ith Long
Distance Included on the Americas Choice Plan. The contract states FOR LIFE
not life of the contract.

Now a few months down the pike, I added a feature that was called Mobile Web
with Unlimited Nights and Weekends FOR LIFE, again not for the life of the
feature. I have no contract. and 1 year later they (Verizon Wireless) said
the feature should have stayed on with the month to month but some how had
been deleted from the account. Not a biggie they placed it back on. However
my original plan minutes included nights and weekends for Life. Try and
explain why Nights and Weekends when overlapped can cancel out. Ha ha But it
has been no problem getting the credit and features back on.

Curious. Mine shows:
<Start Paste>
Promotional Details:
Current: Beginning on 08/20/03: Unlimited night & weekend minute
allowance per month - 2yr contract

Enhanced Services: Call Delivery , Voice Mail, IQ Service Package, CDMA
Digital W/TXT Msg, CallerID, Message Waiting Ind,
New Every Two, Streamline Billing, Nat IN-Network -1000 Mins, Mobile Web - 0
Alerts, National Access
Nat IN-Network -1000 Mins
Monthly allowance 1000 general
<End Paste>

The N&W are shown separately (as promo details), and specifically has a date
associated with it. I also have mobile web, but don't see anything in the
computer called "Mobile Web with Unlimited Nights and Weekends ". I wonder
if it may have been stuff on your original contract (those were for life),
rather than newer stuff now (new contracts in the last year or so) that is
only for the life of the contract?

That maybe is what KC was referring to.

All I know is that when I had started my plan many, many years ago in my
contract the AC550 w/Unlimitd Nights and Weekends for *life* was he
promotion.

Also at the time there was a promotion of Mobile Web w/ Unlimited Nights &
Weekends for $5 for *life*, and then a year or so down the line the plan
they had out was mobile web w/?? alerts for $5.99 etc.and higher and the
Free Nights and Weekends were not there. But in the paperwork I was sent in
the mail for the original promo was *For Life* it did not say for the *life
of the contract* (I had no contract) just like that new 500 Text Message
Promo that two CSR's said I had to have a 2 year contract to get. Which was
incorrect and a friend at Verizon added on with no problem. The trouble is I
could up my plan minutes (550to700) and get In Network calling for $5
cheaper but I lose my Unlimited N&W and Mobile Web price plan etc. So I am
happy with what I have and use. And I never use that many minutes and it
sits in the cradle all weekend long. Ha ha

Forgot to list what I have. In addition to my 550 Anytime minutes.

Promotional Details:
Current: Beginning on 07/30/03: 19% Access credit

Enhanced Services: Call Forwarding , Caller ID Service, Call
Waiting, Message Waiting
Indicator, No Answer Transfer, Three Party Conference Acc
Chg,
Voice Mail Access Charge
Mobile Web/Nite & Wkend Promo , TXT 500 - 12/31/05 Then
250

Current Features: TXT 500 - 12/31/05 Then 250
Monthly allowance 500 messages
Additional per messages $.10 sent, $.02 received

I also can use my LG VX 4400 as a web dialer (Modem) under both the
1rX and the slower service which now escapes me. You will see the
newest feature of the text messages. Which customer no service said I
had to have a contract for 2 years. yeah right.

And it does the most important thing yet, It actually lets me make and
receive calls 🙂

I remain month to month and don't sign another contract until I need
another phone.
