When I have afterburner on in a game, it shows 2 different percentages, as if my GPU has 2 cores. Can someone tell me why there are two? Thanks.

Another thing to look out for is the TDP.
That shows up as a percent.

You can always change what is on the OSD.

This is how mine is setup(with a little hwinfo help).
My first percent is usage the second is TDP

Your cpu does indeed seem to be getting hit pretty hard.

It happened to show 100% when I took the screen shot but hovers around the low 90's. The game is Battlefield 4 on ultra settings. The CPU/GPU run it fantastically, it is an Intel G3258 Dual core at stock 3.2. It is overclockable to 4.5ish+ but haven't needed to yet.

Is it bad for it to run at 98-100 on both cores constantly? It stays cool.

It's not bad per se, it just means that you are CPU bound. This can translate to lower minimum framerates during computationally intense portions of the game. It can also lower the maximum framerate as well. As long as you aren't experiencing sudden noticeable drops in framerate while you play, its not hurting anything.

Lots of people are worried about being CPU bottlenecked because they think they aren't getting the full benefit of their GPU. This is a valid argument, however if the overall gameplay isn't being affected (ie not lagging and stuttering), then what does it matter?

If you were to drop a quad core in there, obviously your CPU core usage would drop because it would distribute the load more evenly. I'm not saying that you have to do this, just to further the explanation. Only ever upgrade when you feel you need to.

Before multicore cpus almost all games would max out a cpu. It will certainly not hurt it.

Also note that games only use so many threads(windows distributes those over available cores). So sometimes you can look like you are not cpu bound and still be. This is VERY common on 8 core cpus and 4 core cpus with hyper threading. In those situations you will have lower frame rates with the video card load being low.

Yes this is correct, even when an application is multithreaded capable, often the application will show affinity for a couple cores leaving the remainder nearly inactive. This is where single core performance makes a difference and indirectly clock speed of the cores.

That all said, BF4 is definitely a title that benefits from multicore CPU's and is able to make use of 4 or more cores.

Hi guys!
I am looking for a thread that would explain two percentages figures that Afterburner shows.
At first glance, it would make sense that first figure shows fan speed in %, but actually it isn't. I am sure of that - just analyse my second screen-shot.

First percentage on top is GPU usage but WTF is about this % on right? It seems it some kind of boost? Is it?

Looks like Power %. If you want to know for sure, click your settings (Gear) in Afterburner. Then go to the monitoring tab. Look at the the first item in the list with "in OSD". Mine has Power, so that is the first item shown in the OSD. So I've got for GPU: Power, GPU temperature, GPU Usage, GPU Fanspeed, and GPU clock.
