I have an EVGA 970 sc (blower style 04g-p4-1972-kr) card. I would like to do some overclocking, have lower temps and keep the card for as long as I can/want since these days a 970 is usually recommended for games. I'm thinking about upgrading the cooler on it to a Accelero Xtreme III by ARCTIC. Does anyone know if this will work? I went on the EVGA forums and one person said it'll work so far, what does everyone here think????

Well if you just want a project I can get behind that, you may need some thermal pads for the VRM and memory chips as well if that cooler doesn't come with any. I would expect a well taken care of 970 to last for years after vega comes out even with the blower cooler, however the new cooler may allow you to achieve slightly higher...
Yeah it should, that card uses the nvidia reference PCB I believe so it should fit no problem. Even if it isn't those coolers are pretty universal and fit quite a lot of cards.

However I absolutely do not think it is worth it in any way to spend 90 dollars cooling a 970, you would be much better off just saving up for a newer more powerful card in my opinion.

2nd person to say it'll work. Guess I'm doing it! I'll return it if need be.
There's currently one on Amazon for less than $60, not to mention I'm waiting for Vega to see how it performs and to see Nvidia's answer to AMD's upcoming cards. I plan on trying to keep this card for another year, but modding it would be something nice to do and it'll possibly give the card a longer time in my system.
