Hello,

The fans on one of my Radeon HD 7870 GHz's no longer work, so I'm looking for an aftermarket cooler. The temps are high, I don't recall the max temp of the last test, it's the rear card (the one between the CPU and the second GPU) I'm planning on upgrading my build in awhile, and I'll need the heatsink eventually, might aswell do it now right?

I've been looking at two:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186096
and
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835426031

The ARCTIC cooler is a 250w, and I don't see the wattage for the GELID. I run a 750w EVGA gold rated PSU with this build:

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116899 (i5-4670k 3.4GHz)

GPU: http://www.amazon.com/RADEON-HD-7870-GHz-Edition/dp/B00A1572TQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1439790535&sr=8-1&keywords=7870+ghz (7870 GHz in X-Fire)

Mobo: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Fatal1ty%20Z87%20Killer/ (ASRock Fatal1ty Killer)

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231527&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-PC-_-pla-_-Desktop+Memory-_-N82E16820231527&gclid=CK7dv8e2r8cCFceQHwod0uoMLg&gclsrc=aw.ds (8GB 1866)

2 TB 7200rpm WD HDD
Standard DVD drive
And 6 case fans.

I don't know what the wattage all of it is and I've no idea how to find out, but if anyone knows if I can handle the cooler(s) with my current setup can you let me know, please?

Any answers are greatly appreciated,

thanks,

-wildi

Solution
depends on the motherboard. if its an x8 slot and you have a long enough bridge then yes. if its an x4 slot then you will gimp 1 of the cards.

i just had a look at that asrock board it will handle a 2.5 slot cooler in the top slot and have enough room to put a second card in the second slot.
basically they have for thought and made room for deep coolers and moved the second slot down to where you would normally see a 3rd slot. so you should be good...
i also looked at arctis site and they have an accelero 1v gooler for the same price as the 1 you want but it has 3 fans. this is a better option if you have the length in the case.
http://www.arctic.ac/uk_en/accelero-xtreme-iv.html 0.4 sone (about 25dbl)...
i used an arctic cooler hd 5870xtreme on my old hd 5870. it was the best thing i did for the card. absolutely silent even at full load. and for me well worth the outlay.

problem is its a 2.5 slot cooler so may not be ideal for a crossfire system. add in the back plate and you could run out of space for a second card no matter which slot you mount it in. arctics cooler also disapates heat from other components 2 by bridging them with extra fins. where as the geild solution sits above the vrms leaving an air gap. still perfectly fine but not as comprehensive a cooling solution.

Thank you,

I have 3 PCIe slots on my motherboard, I only need one right now, so I would be able to more the second card down to the 3rd slot.

but the triple slot cooler in my experience was way quieter than advertised. on my old 1 it was rated at 0.5 sone which is about 27dbl but i can attest i couldnt hear it at all unless i put my ear right up to it, even at full load.
a stunning piece of kit.
