AHCI a must?

My motherboard does not have an option to change to AHCI. Can I still use an SSD, and it will perform lower, or will it not work at all? I have the following motherboard:

You can use the SSD, but several features will be lost. Your system will run better than with an HDD, but not as well as a system with AHCI enabled.

Because there is no TRIM command being passed, some people think that your performance will decay over time and some think that Garbage Collection will clean that up.

I just read the manual. Try selecting RAID mode but not building a RAID set. I'll give good odds that this will enable AHCI.

I have a 4 year old Dell i7 with an x58 chipset. The BIOS does not support AHCI, but I found out about raid mode, I was able to get TRIM and NCQ working.
