My 4yo Dell Precision T1700 is getting a swap from the 500G Seagate HDD to a Samsung 860EVO. In the BIOS, it has options for 1) disabled 2) IDE 3)AHCI 4) RAID (current setting). I've cloned the SSD using Macrium Reflect. Would there be any damage to the SSD if I left the BIOS set as is (RAID)? I see notes that the SSD can perform better in AHCI mode but there is also a CD drive connected to a SATA cable. Just wondering if changing the BIOS controller mode will cause issues.

I removed the original 500G spinner and attached its SATA cables to the new drive. Booted up, it installed a new Samsung driver and went on its merry way. I left the BIOS unchanged (RAID mode). It now boots in ~30 seconds verses 3 minutes. Also all the video and image editing programs load much, much faster. Forgot to mention it is W7Pro64. Works outstanding.
