ahhh HELP on internet connection

Hello,

DELL inspiron 530 PC
Windows Vista

I recently reformatted and i cant get an internet connection.

I am connected via a wired connection (wireless works fine)

My PC says its connected to an unidentified network and the internet has got a red cross in the network and sharing centre.

i have downloaded drivers from the dell website but nothing works, also downloaded the latest chipset drivers.

The driver i found which i think will fix it says i cant install it. error is The installed version of intel network connection is not supported for upgrades. You must uninstall it before insatlling this version"

i did that but just made things worse and it still wouldnt install. maybe im not uninstalling the right thing?

i am stuck as to what to do! any advise? been trying for a few hours now and its driving me mad

The issue does not sound like it's drivers, look in Device Manager, is anything showing errors? Are there link lights on the network port? Did you try a different port on the router or modem? Do other systems work OK on the same connection? Try rebooting the router or modem?
