[SOLVED] air cooling a 5800x

Solution
Ive heard many say 5800X is harder to cool than the big brother 5900x and even the 5950X?
The 5950X is easier to cool than the 5900X. It was the same deal with the 3950X and 3900X.
The x95x Vs the x9xx makes sense to me: they're using their absolute best dies on the former.
I don't know what all AMD did with the x8xx chips, but it's terrible. I believe there's some extra heat from those dies that does not end up going through the heatspreader > paste > cooler cold plate cycle.
I would recommend the 3700X over the 3800X/XT because there was a 1 - 2% difference between them, and it ran a fair bit cooler.
3800X/XT were not worth it, even when it was on sale, IMO.

IF they ever release a 5700X, that would be great, but the naming...

Intel's cpus have the high power draw without the thermal density(14nm).
AMD's Ryzen 3000 and up has the power efficiency without the surface area to properly dissipate the greater thermal density of the 7nm + MCM dies.

Just like the 3800X and 3800XT, the 5800X is the hot one in it's respective stack, but not because of power.
But yes, you can air cool a 5800X.

The 5800X is in an odd spot.
The 5600X is by no means a bad cpu, but so many people who would be well served with it seem to justify the 5800X for that futureproofing nonsense - IMO(again) it's marketing BS and a fool's errand; you can never win that game.
The 5900X, on the other hand, is definitely a bit much for just playing games with... for people who actually need that many cores/threads, the Intel options just can't compete with it. AHEM! Availability aside, that is.

According to Tom's Hardware, the 5800X consumes about 10W less than the 5950X. So it wouldn't be harder to cool down based on that value alone. The only thing I can think of that would make it harder to cool is that heat energy is more concentrated due to there being only two chips on the 5800X while the 5950X has three.

I was thinking I should be able to cool the 5900X better than I am currently.
Using a n NZXT Z63 im still hitting 72c in a 20c room under s CPUZ stress test. I was expecting mid 60s honestly.
High 60s and even 70 while gaming.

Sounds like my 10900k in my 20C room.:LOL:

Make sure you take off the side glass panel to avoid reflections.
I use the vented side to run cooler. NR200
Sounds like my 10900k in my 20C room.:LOL:
The idle temp fluctuates between 29C and 35c
Idle to me is chrome open with a dozen tabs but no videos games or rendering going on.
Presently 21* room 32* CPU

Like I said... sounds like my system... and I agree about what idle is only I have at least 30 firefox tabs open.:ROFLMAO:

Anyway... have fun. (y)

I'm still curious how the fan/cooler setup is, if you don't mind?
Case Corsair NR200 (vented side not the TG
NZXT Z63 280mm aio mounted on the side panel.
I have it setup pulling air intaking from outside.
and 2 top mounted TT Riing Trio 120mm fans exhausting the top of case.
Ill take some pics and upload them, but my wiring is a ness so be forewarned lol. I just built it and didnt go and tidy up yet.

No, it's ok, I have an idea of how it's setup now.

Hmm, I wonder if there isn't any gpu exhaust making it's way through the radiator...
Ehh, I doubt it's that big a deal.
All good!
