Hi there,

I am looking to build a new gaming PC priced at around £900-£1000. For the CPU, i am looking to get a ryzen 1600x that i will be overclocking. However, i don't know what air cooler would be the best for this. I was looking into the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 3 and the Cryorig H7 (i also have a Hyper 212 EVO from my previous build). From all the forum posts i've read everyone seems to be recommending the noctua coolers but i can't stand their ugly colours. Also, for RAM i will be using Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 and for the motherboard i will be using the ASUS Prime X370-Pro.

My question is, are the coolers i listed overkill for overclocking a 1600x? If so, are there any better alternatives for my build?

EDIT: I forgot to add, for my case i will be using either a fractal design define S or a fractal design meshify C TG.

Thanks in advance.

The coolest one is dark rock pro 3, unless you're going to have issues with it bumping into ram. Cryorig h7 is also a good model, but a little too close to 212 evo to be worth getting it:

Meshify C is generous width wise. They'll all fit. Same for define S.

I've just gone through a couple forum posts and people are saying the vengeance LPX shouldn't be a problem as the LP stands for "Low Profile". I guess I'll go for the dark rock pro 3. Also, what do you think about a possible AIO configuration?

AIOs have their advantages. Just beware of a bit higher price, and shorter warranty because pumps eventually fail. But you'll avoid the big hunk of metal on your cpu. Both your cases can accommodate a radiator so basically it's up to you.

Understood. Thanks for all your help!
