I just have to ask: Why is this good news for Switzerland?
The main reason I posted the original question is because I don't think it's
particularly fair to the airline industry and their customers, to have to
assume the burden of another tax, which will ultimately be paid by the
passengers. When I purchase a ticket to fly from Toronto Canada, Federal
Goods and Services Tax, Provincial Sales Tax, Fuel Tax, Airport Tax, Luxury
Tax and probably a few others I don't even know about are tacked on. I
think on a $200 ticket, I likely pay an additional $100 in taxes. Now, they
are considering an additional tax to give money to Africa.
I have nothing against giving anything to Africa if it will help the people
out, but where will it stop? Are they going to tax my airfare because there
are people hungry in Asia, tax my airfare to rebuild Asia after the Tsunami,
tax my airfare to rebuild Baghdad, tax my airfare to pay M.J.'s legal bill?
Excuse me, but all this smacks of a world-type of communism.
I'm aware some of my federal taxes are going to help other countries in need
and that's all well and good, but leave my airfare alone!
