Today I was treated to a tour of the Airbus A330 + A340 production lines,
and I was absolutely gobsmacked. It was absolutely mind blowing.

We were not allowed round the A380 factory, which is a completely separate
and HUGE building, but we were informed that "she was on the drive". What a
sight greeted us when we got to the complex - the A380 was "on the drive" -
and knew it was big, but you cannot appreciate how big it is till you see it
close(ish) up.

There are also two Air France concordes there...(the A340 factory)

If you live near Gatwick or Luton, and are prepared to spend about £50 for a
grand day out, it is worth it - we did it in a day, and it was sooooooo
worth it!!!

Has anyone else been on the tour? How about the Boeing factory??

I took the Cessna single-engine factory tour. Does that count?

I watched them build the Boeing 747 and 777 factories. I live a few miles from the plants. I keep meaning to tour them
both (it's free) and never seem to find the time. You have reminded me that I just need to do it. I have of course
been inside both with friends who work there and once on business, but that's not the same as a tour.

I think that depends on how much beer the workers drank the night before :)

I have been to the factory of Airbus in Toulouse and Hamburg. In Hamburg
there were parts of A380 standing. Unbelivable, I could touch it :)

How do we do this? Is it just a question of flying to Tolouse and turning up
at the gates? Or is there something to pre-book?

Got a tour of the McDonnell Douglas production floor about 18 years
ago. So much aluminum (dipped / yellow primer) everywhere, engines
on tow-carts.. and LOTS of wires hanging out!!

Hmm.... wonder what they make there? :)

Pre booking is vital - there is even a tour of the Air France concorde if
you book enough in advance...

It is ?9 each, or ?13,50 if you do the concorde thing. Easyjet definately
needs booking...

Ah yes, the last URL on the http://www.airbus.com/about/faq.asp page.

Mike - did you book by phone or post? My French is a bit rusty - not sure a
phone booking would be in my interest!

How long in advance did you book?

Sorry so many q's.

Well one day, if you pay the fare, you'll be able to go on board and sit in
it! :0))

Being a Euro company, they take telephone bookings, they speak very good
english too!

They have tours in French, English, German and Spanish.

We booked a month in advance, but you can book on the day by phone.
