Akasa listed a USB4 40 Gbps aluminum enclosure with heatsink and 8,000 RPM fan for PCIe 5.0 drives up to 2280 spec. Its listed benchmarks indicate that it provides up to 3629.72 and 3475.02 MB/s sequential read/ write speeds.

Wouldn't a good (and very efficient) gen4 drive saturate a 40gbit usb4 bus? Even if the enclosure only has a 2 lane controller, Gen4 x 2 is enough for 4GByte/s, which is more than the enclosure can handle. AFAIK, current new gen 4 drives can be significantly more efficient than gen5 especially with 'half-load' scenario's like this.

Perhaps when it launches it'll be impressively less useless a scarcely vented chungus, and handsomer. I may not need a LoJack, FIDO2, and cable quality console readout on it, plus a place to warm coffee inset, but it could at least pretend to be a psychommu amplifier.
