My motherboard is "MSI B85M-E45", it has one 4-pin system fan power connector. When I plug "Cougar Vortex PWM" fan directly to the releated connector, it work fine: Fan speed changes according to the system temperature. But when I use "Vortex Flexa P5" PWM splitter, the fan run always on maximum RPM speed.
The cable configuration of Akasa Flexa P5 PWM splitter:
It has 2 input and 5 output connectors. 1st input connector (which is plugging to motherboard) has pin 3 (sense) and pin 4 (PWM control) cables. The 2nd input is a molex connector of the power supply, has pin 1 (ground) and pin 2 (12V) cables. One of the output connectors (which are plugging to fans) has pin 1,2,3,4 cables and the other four connectors have pin 1,2,4 cables (only one output connector has sense cable).
Note: I have tried all output connectors and all are the same.
My question: How motherboard control the PWM fan speed?
Answers:
a) By changing output voltage of pin 2.
b) By changing output signal of pin 4.
The answer "a" should not be correct. Because the power is coming to pin 2 of the splitter from the power supply, and it is always constant. Then if answer "b" is correct, why the splitter doesn't work?
