Patch notes from the latest HWInfo64 beta up prove that Intel will be using gear modes in Alder Lakes memory controller.

Rocket Lake / Alder Lake "gear modes" aren't really new: back when memory controllers were located in the north bridge instead of CPUs, we used to have FSB🐏IO ratios or some variation thereof.

I remember seeing DDR3 being compatible with Intel Core 2 series like the Q6600 as long the motherboard supports DDR3 dual channel. It is even compatible with DDR1.

So I am trying to use DDR5 7200 Ram with 13700k. Should I use gear 2 even if I am gaming? Even if I was running at the 5600 going to 7200 is a large step. Right now my motherboard wants to run my RAM at 5000mts but I can set it to xmp 7200 but it is not stable in that configuration without tweaking. I was wondering if gear 2 would change anything or help. Thanks for any information.
