I'll try to be as mannered as I can about this, but I absolutely HATE Alienware's prices. For their $4000 fully upgraded 18' laptop I could buy two maxed ROG laptops- but that's besides the point.

Basically, this morning at my door was a package for me and inside was an Alienware 13' 2015 laptop sent to me by my work. The graphics inside is currently a GTX 960M and I'm wondering if it's possible to upgrade this to a GTX 980M, however I haven't found any videos indicating it's possible, although I have found actual GTX 980M's for laptops.

Has anyone done this or know if it's possible?

Hello there,
well basically the Alienware 13 is not intended to have any further upgrades and due to that they introduce the Graphics Amplifier, the GTX 980M power consumption is 100 watts and in the other hand the GTX 960M is about 60 watts, also the TDP is totally different, the best solution would be, getting the Graphics Amplifier and get a desktop Video Card so you can do the task you want smoother.

I hope i answered your inquiry buddy.
Typically no. The problem is that even if the GPU is in a module that can be replaced that does not mean your laptop was designed to deliver the additional power required or deal with the additional heat. Typically this kind of upgrade requires replacing the motherboard and cooling solution assuming you can find versions that will even fit in that casing.

My Alienware 13 doesn't have the proprietary slot to use the graphics amplifier. Any end around to this?

I don't see how that is possible. I have the Alienware 13 and it has the amplifier plug in slot available. I don't think it is an option. It should be included in all their current line of laptops..l
