I am planning to upgrade my CPU on my Alienware 14, i7-4700MQ, Nvidia gt 750m, 16gb ram, 750gb hhd. The CPU I want to upgrade to is a i7-4930MX. Before I purchase the CPU, I would want to know if it is possible to upgrade the CPU in the first place. And if so, how would I upgrade the CPU safely. Thanks.

You had better contact Dell to see if the swap would even work. They do have the ability to lock processors out in the bios so that you cant use them plus this was never offered with the Extreme processor and might not be able to support it just from an electrical & cooling loads perspective.

Both of these CPU's have the same "G3" socket, but this is a large job to do, and if you had to ask about this, it is probably not a good idea that you do it.

The i7-4940MX still has a minimal difference, besides the 2 cores (whick likely wont be noticed while gaming) over the i7-4700MQ. See here: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-4940MX-vs-Intel-Core-i7-4700MQ

The price is way too much, is is over the price of a desktop i7-5960X. See here. http://www.amazon.com/Extreme-Edition-i7-4940MX-Quad-core-Processor/dp/B00K3X81S2

Last, the Alienware 14 never had the option of a i7-4940MX at purchase, and it is likely that the cooing system is not good enough to keep it from overheating. The i7-4700MQ is still a very powerful CPU for a laptop. Stick with what you have as it is still powerful.
