I am planning on getting a laptop for my birthday and I have plans on getting a VR headset some point after that (probably the oculus rift s). The oculus homepage has a list a oculus ready PCs and the Alienware 17 was listed as one of the oculus ready computers. The website says only the PCs that run there headsets the best get this title (and a cool looking sticker). So what I would like to know is, I know that oculus approves the Alienware 17 but I would like to hear any personal opinions with the laptop before I make up my mind (preferably experiences with Virtual Reality using the Alienware 17.

Assuming you're looking at an i7-8750H + 1070?
That would certainly be VR ready, by definition..... but probably not the best value route to go.

Looks like that base config (8GB RAM) runs about ~$1,700 USD minimum.

You should see functionally the same performance from something like this MSI offering (same CPU, with a 1660TI) at $1,100:

Or this ASUS (Ryzen7 3750H + 1660TI), also at $1,100

and better performance (2070) for similar money:

From a strictly "will it work?" standpoint, yes, the Alienware would be fine, for what it is. Overpriced though, IMO.
