I resently purchased the alienware alpha i3 pc for under $500 dollars on amazon. I want to play assassin's creed, far cry 4, and others, but they require intell i5 processor and recommend i7 intell processor. I have upfaded the ram to 8gb and hard drive to the 120gb ssd with an external hard drive to save memory. I guess what im trying to get at is this:

Do I need to upgrade cpu to i5 or better, or can I upgrade it with an AMD Athlon X4 860k 3.7GHz to make it work?

And also, are there different types of cpu that wouldn't fit my computer. Just in case I buy a certain product and it doesn't fit(EX: the first memory stick I purchased was twice as long as the actual size I needed due to the fact that the alienware alpha products used inside are similar to laptop components to make the product more compact.)

I think you have one of the above link.

"If you pop off the CPU heat sink, you can upgrade the system's CPU with another fourth-generation Intel Core processor (like a Core i5 or i7 model), but you can't upgrade the Nvidia GeForce GTX graphics (a custom part based on the mobile GTX 860M)."

I would suggest an upgrade to Intel® Core™ i5-4590T as that is what the more upscale Steam machine is using.
