Hello,
I have alienware m9700. I recently purchased a new video card for it - nVidia GeForce 8600M GT 512MB MXM II. The original one is 256MB card.

When I replace my old card with the new one, the machine starts, but the screen is black.

Any suggestions on what could be wrong?

Did you clean up the drivers before changing the card..?? In case no then put your previous card back and boot to the desktop.. Perform a clean sweep of the drivers using driversweeper (http://www.phyxion.net/Driver-Sweeper/210/View-category).. Shut down and replace the cards..

emperus drivers are for WINDOWS not for simply just posting to atleast the POST/BIOS screen

reseat the card and see if that helps

so your definitly sure your laptop supports the different video card? and it was in perfect working order?

What was your old card?

The card description and compatibility said that it is compatible with my laptop.
How can I check if the card is in working order?
My old/current card is : M9700 NVidia Go 7900GS 256MB Video Card

was wondering ...did u find a fix? other than getting a new 2nd card?.i have the same issue but with one of the two GeForce 7900gs.after a bunch of things it seems that its one of the cards.it happened when i had right clicked on the realtek wifi icon to repair.thats when the screen went black.I've tried different drivers (though the 179.48 version seems to be the one to use with XP pro) flased the latest bios 3.18...then read in some forum that there was a conflict with the realtek and the nvidia drivers..huhg! if your still around let me know...thanks
