Hello, so recently I was offered a 6 month old Alienware x51 for 1000$ Canadian, (750$ USA). Should I build my own PC for that price or should I buy that amazing deal.

Custom Built PC: 750$ budget

Alienware x51: i7 6700, Gtx 970, 8gb ram, windows 10. Brand new. One scratch on Power button but so small camera can't even pick it up.

Solution
Agreed with xniosy about avoiding Alienware but also about not being able to build a comparable specced custom build for that price. Also you should weigh the pros and cons. One significant con to consider is that you will never be able to significantly upgrade the alienware. When it comes time to upgrade you will be faced with having to either buy a completely new system or build one yourself. Either way, it's much more money lost than if you would have built a custom system instead of getting the Alienware. So if upgradability and/or customization is what you're after, definitely build your own custom rig! Honestly, if you can save up an extra couple hundred dollars in addition to the $750, then it would be well worth it in the long...
I think you should go for the Alienware.
A better pc than an alienware for 750$ would be a pretty tough task.
Plus Alienware has that badass look that you will not be able to afford on a 750$ pc.
I mean all the flashing lights everywhere.
Plus it will add to your style statement if you'd like to flaunt....

$750 is a very low budget and you will not get anywhere near the performance of the Alienware system with that money.

In most cases 99% of people that know what they're talking about will tell you to avoid Alienware (and many other pre-built PC's) but in this circumstance you will not beat it with a $750 budget build.

Honestly, if you can save up an extra couple hundred dollars in addition to the $750, then it would be well worth it in the long run IMHO. So my answer is two-fold:

Either

1) If upgradability is important to you and you're able to save a couple hundred more $$$, build your own custom pc rig and avoid the alienware, spending more money now but saving lots in the long run.

2) If you value portability above all else and/or are wanting to spend the least possible amount of $$$ NOW, go ahead and get the alienware.

My $.02, go with option 1 :) I hope this was helpful, I apologize if not!
