Hello
i have an Alienware Aurora r3 with
X58 Alienware Board
I7 920 @ 3,4 GHz (OC)
12 GB DDR3 @ 1333 MHz

My Old Card is an EVGA GTX 780 FTW
I Now got an MSI GTX 970

After i installed the New card my pc doesnt boot. After Pressing the Power Button the Board Makes a Self test and with the GTX 970 nothing happens. I get no screen and Even cant Access the bios.

For testing i have reset my default bios Settings - Same Problem. I also removed the bios battery - Same shit.

With the old GTX 780 it is no Problem to boot up...

I have the newest BIOS Version A11 for my Board.... I didnt get the Problem i dont know what to do ...

Anyone have an idea for that issue???

Best regards and i am happy about any help

You've connected the two 6-pin PCIe cables to the 970 from the PSU?

Also, amperage on the 12v rail is more important than the PSU's rated wattage output. The PSU needs to be capable of supplying 30 amps on the 12v rail for a 970, so check your PSU's rating plate or post it's make and model so I can look up it tech specs.

Yes 1x 6 Pin and 1x 8 Pin is Connected. I cant get the specs for the PSU, because it is the stock Alienware 850 Watt PSU.
But relating to the publishers Sites my old 780 GTX needs 250 Watt and the GTX 970 only 150 Watt...
Tomorrow i will call the Dell Support for the MB specs and if the GTX 970 is supported.

But amps on the 12v rail is more important than that, you can't judge a PSU's suitability just by it's wattage.
I made that clear in my first post which you don't appear to have read properly - - amps is important too!

Sorry for that Phillip, but i can't say if the 12v rail is supplying 30 amps (alienware doesn't publish the exact specs)... and i have to correct myself my PSU got 875 watt.
My PSU has two cables for PCI-E Connection. Each of that has a 6 Pin and a 8 Pin Connector. Would it make a difference if i use the 6 pin from the first one and the 8 pin from the second one?! (thats a combination i haven't tried yet)

This morning i called the dell support and they told me that the GTX 970 is not tested with my board yet. Maybe there is an incompatibility and this will be fixed in a further BIOS Update, but thats not sure...

I will test the GTX 970 in another PC, that i can exclude the card has no defect and if it's so i think i will resell it and switch to an GTX 780Ti.

But if someone know another solution for getting that GTX 970 running i will try it :)
