All-Black Optical Disk Drive? Paint?

For those of us that still desire to have an optical disk drive in our builds, it sure would be nice if the manufacturers made them in all black instead of that 1990s grey color. But I haven't been able to find one like that, so I assume there aren't any.

I was wondering if I put screws in the 8 holes and taped the power/SATA headers & faceplate if I could safely paint it black w/o getting paint into the inner workings? I'd be painting over some useless stickers, but that's OK. As cheap as they are, I guess I wouldn't be out much if it ruined it. Still... Looking for other opinions.

The inside of my case (my case is the black version, tho): http://

you can still get black ones.i just got one at staples.i wouldnt try painting it in or out of the pc tho.even if you take it out there is still a better than even chance you will get overspray inside the unit.on the other hand, they are so cheap that if it doesnt work you wont be out much.lol

I think you are referring to the face plate. I didn't exactly specify that I meant the housing itself. The part you see thru the window in the side panel of my case. Yeah, all the face plates are black. Usually.

This is the inside of my case (mine is the black case, tho)

Possibly black adhesive paper

Yeah, a spray can would almost certainly be easier, once everything is taped off.
But just another option.

Turned out good enough for who it's for. Still seems to work normally. And now it is not visible thru the side panel window anymore.
