All created equal? Will this write CD-R?

I recently put in an order for a DVD burner, but I wanted one that also wrote CD-Rs. I learned that SATA promotes better airflow in the PC case because their wires are less bulky than IDE ribbons.

I almost bought this,

SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA DVD Burner - OEM

but bought this to be safe, because in the specifications it mentions CD-R write speeds where the former does not.

SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 22X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache IDE 22X DVD±R DVD Burner - OEM

This is the kind of oversight that would befall me ordinarily :pt1cable:

The first one definitely won't—at least according to the specs given on NewEgg. If you want to be really sure, you can always search for the product's serial number on the Samsung website.

Good catch btw!
