USing W Vista HOme Prem 64bit on Desktop PC .
I had created a few sub-folders and was moving (drag n drop) files from DOCUMENTS to these sub-folders which had been going fine.
In the process, suddenly all the files and sub-folders were gone. I've done searches for .DOC files almost everywhere and can't find them
I can't imagine what Win Expl. did with my files. Obviously they are important to me. I;ve also looked in TRASH - nothing there except the
expected recently deleted stuff .
I'm puzzled. CAn anybody help ? Is there a different way to search ? I haven't tried to RESTORE to a previous date because I don't think
it would change my file structure.

Thanks Don

What I typed to search was .doc .
That did bring up some files that were not located in DOCUMENTS ( like on Desktop) and some shortcuts - but they didn't work.
I'll give your search file a try. Thanks.
I just tried *.doc but it looks pretty much the same....
Some of the files that I should find have a shortcut which shows up on search, but when I click on them a window comes up saying that the
shortuct leads to a file that has been moved and the shortcut doesn't work anymore. Some of these allude to drive e: . I do have a partition
that is e: , but nothing is on it ( I've checked ) . I haven't gotten into using it yet.

I'll give your search file a try. Thanks.

Thanks for these files. With "Everything" I was able to find my files. With "Recuva" I was able to put them back into a new folder. Although only a few were
listed by Recuva as in good shape. I have been trying to open these >doc files with OpenOffice , but so far they all are just a series of "###" ; I've been
using the character set ' West European(AScII.US) but the ### is all that shows up - one file had some HTML info that didn't relate to what that file should
have contained. I'll keep looking for the few good files in the lot. Any advice ??

I do have a couple of questions. "Everything" wants to start up every time I turn on my PC ( daily) - why does it want to do that ? CAn I turn off that
aspect of it or should I just Uninstall it now that I've used it. ?

I don't know if Recuva would be of any further use to me in looking at these files that aren't reading correctly ??? Don't remember if it said it had made a
listing of them. I was going to say that I don't see Listed anywhere in the ALL PROGRAMS listing of vISTA... but I did find it with W Explorer on Prog. Files
and started it that way - don't see any list from the other day.

Thanks again. Don

If you want to keep 'everything' on your computer, but only start it when you want then go to start\run and type MSCONFIG go to the start up tab and uncheck the startup box for everything. (and anyother programe you dont need on startup)You will have to restart after doing this.
