Question All Ethernet connections experience lag spikes while wireless ones do not

So I've been having this problem for probably a month at this point and nothing has helped. About every thirty seconds or so, my internet on my computer has lag spikes. When ping testing google, the return time on the packets will go from 20ms to over a thousand for one packet then go back to normal. This only happens on ethernet connections. When I tried it on my laptop with only wifi, there were no spikes. But when I plugged in my ethernet cord it started having spikes. I also tried multiple other ports in my house and they all had the ping spikes as well. This is only on ethernet and makes gaming and doing most things on my computer pointless.

Try to ping the router IP rather than google. If it actually is a ethernet problem then you will see the same issue.
The wifi connection has the same path past the router so this will test just the non shared part.
It is very rare to see issues like this on a ethernet cable. A bad cable or port tends to cause loss not delays.

If it does not show the same delays then you need to determine what is different about the testing to google when you test on wifi and ethernet.

If pinging 8.8.8.8 is pinging the router (I'm not sure but heard that before), then yes it is having the same issue. Also I've tested multiple cables and it still has the same issue.

This is going to be tricky to find. It almost has to be some software in the pc.

Delays are caused by traffic being held in a buffer. A ethernet cable is just a piece of wire and the time it take signals to flow is some fixed percentage of the speed of light.

This leaves the router and the pc. The router is unlikely because it would likely do the same thing on wifi. This leaves some software on the pc. Check to be sure you do not have any QoS software or any so called "gamer" software that tries to prioritize one kind of traffic over another. This comes in the bloatware you find bundled with some motherboards and video cards.
Maybe try to boot your pc into safe mode with networking this will prevent a lot of crap software from running. If you still get delays in safe mode then I am not sure what to suggest.

I just booted into safe mode with networking and it is still happening. Also I've tried other devices in other ports with other cables and every single time this happens unless I use wifi.

Do you have any network utilities installed on your PC? Many motherboard include "optimizer" apps that are often more trouble than they are worth. Any of those installed?
From what I know I do not. Also this happens with other devices not just my computer. Any device connected through ethernet has this issue.

I will add the suggestion to run "ipconfig /all" on a network wired computer (with lag spikes) and then do the same on a wireless computer that is not having lag spikes.

Run "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) via the Command Prompt and post the results here being sure to identify which computer is wired and which is wireless.

You should be able to copy and post the results of "ipconfig /all" without needing to retype it all.

The "ipconfig /all" comparison results may prove revealing.

I did this on my laptop where the first was connected through wifi then I disabled my wifi and plugged in my LAN adapter and ran it again.

Just fixed the problem. It turned out to be a problem with my Network Switch because when I plugged my ethernet directly into my router it was fixed. Ordered a new one which should come tonight
