All Files Saving as VLC Media Files

My computer is only saving files as VLC Media files. It doesn't matter what the file is supposed to be. This started after I downloaded the player. Deleting the player and all it's files did not fix the issue. It's causing files to not work properly (Trying to download mods for The Sims 3 (something I know for sure how to do) isn't possible now, because the files are saving as VLC Media files). How do I fix this?

Perform a System restore



If that does not work you could change the Windows Registry.

Be very careful when editing the registry, if possible make a backup.

Click the Windows key + R and type regedit then hit Enter.

Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts
Scroll down to '.vlc' and expand it. Delete the 'UserChoice' folder.
Close the registry editor, and reboot.
