Question All Games CTD

I built a new computer which had worked fine for 3-4 months and then I had a crash where my computer turned off. After rebooting I started having issues with games all crashing to desktop anywhere from 5-15 minutes of use. The computer works fine outside of games where it CTDs constantly. The things I have tried so far include swapping in a new graphics card/memory/motherboard/hard drive, reinstalling windows. I have also done MemTest64 run with no errors. The games instantly close and the computer works fine afterwards (as long as I dont boot up a game). The only error I can remember it spitting out was from World of Warcraft giving me a "memory could not be read" error after the CTD but a similar crash happens in all the games I have tried. I cant seem to figure out what is causing the issue and would appreciate any help in figuring out what is not working.

Also my recent event viewer errors. I ran a game and had it CTD today before I copied them.

**** End of log ****

Hi Rvoz, I'm having a very similar problem. I don't have a solution, but I can tell you what I've figured out thusfar and hopefully someone else can step in. TLDR; I think its a GPU problem relating to corruption that is not solved through reinstalling drivers.

MOBO: Micro-Star International Co. Ltd. PRO B650-P WIFI (MS-7D78) (AM5)
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X 8-Core Processor
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070

I came home to a unresponsive PC on 10/15/23. Booted to blackscreen on 1st try. 2nd try worked.
Web browsing has no issues, but CTDs on almost* game titles after 5 to 15 minutes
(*AOE2: DE had hiccups but did not crash).

Starship Troopers:Exterimination
crashed the fastest so I farmed some error messages from it. They were a series of EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATIONS codes with a range of addresses as well as a DEVICE_HUNG error code.

What I have tried so far
  • Updated/Fresh Installed Nvidia drivers
  • Updated AMD drivers
  • Scanned drives for errors - clean
  • sfc /scannow - clean
  • Defragged all drives
  • Monitored CPU/GPU temps (both under 70 *C when gaming/crashing)
  • Virus Scan
  • Verified Game files
  • Reinstalled games to same/different drives
Theory
The GPU is failing or failing to be recognized/communicated to.
Could be an OS corruption issue that is effecting GPU drivers.
Could be a GPU hardware fault.
MOBA native graphics interference with GPU; both trying to access same addresses.
????

Would appreciate any troubleshooting help/insight into the cause. I can reliably get the game to crash on Starship Troopers in 5 minutes, so I'm happy to run more trials if there's another app I can use to monitor/investigate the failure.

I solved my version of the issue after seeing a tip that XMP (RAM Overclocking) might be the cause, something about the GPU not getting enough access? (it seemed like a stretch)
Went into UEFI and found that my RAM was set to not overclocking, so I turned it on. No more crashes thusfar, but I can't really stress test it tonight.

Update: It looks like that fixed the crashes. It's hard to tell because I don't have hard data from before the crashes, but I think I am experiencing lower FPS now than before.
So while I solved the problem--I'm not entirely sure that I understood it. How overclocking RAM could resolve a GPU/Disk-Read problem doesn't make sense to me. If someone could explain that to me, I would appreciate it.
