All games not working: "(game) has stopped working!" Windows Vista 64bit

Hello everyone, whenever i try to open any game (except for cs:go, terraria, and other non demanding games) it says that it has stopped working. That it.
Now, my PC specs are terrible, I know, but i don't need to know that. I just need to know what is causing it.
PC Specs:
Nvidia EVGA Geforce GTX 970
8 gb ddr3 ram
amd duo core 2.7 ghz processor
400W pcu
I know that my specs do not match the required minimums for the graphics card, and i will upgrade my parts. I would just like to know what is causing it.... Thanks

Has this always happened? If not, when did it start? You may want to check RAM, run one stick at a time. If you have a poor quality power supply, that may cause issues with power going to the system, especially the video card, which can cause crashes.
