All HDDs (Sata, USB) occasionally freeze

I have a desktop with Windows7 running on an SSD, a 5 Disk RAID 5 setup, and various eSata or USB drives. Occasionally (and it's starting to happen more frequently) drive access freezes for LONG periods of time (10-15 minutes or more). During this time, there is little CPU activity and no CPU activity - things just "hang"..
I've tried various combos of eSata drives and ports, and various USB drives connected to various USB ports (2 or 3) nothing seems to make it better or worse. I originally thought it was my SATA controller, but it's happening with the USB drives.
Any thoughts?

Did you install ALL the drivers for your components ? (Motherboard, Raid controller (if there's any), external usb enclosures drivers, etc.)

If you already did that, try uninstalling them and using the HDDs without them. They could be conflicting and that can make drives not to work right.

Run memtest to rule out ram. Make sure mb bios has all of the bug fixes.
Run hdtune read all the drives smart info for any warnings. Make sure all drives firmware are updated. The last issue would be power supply that has ac ripple in it or drops below atx spec.
