Say you're watching a movie on a laptop, and then you plug a HDMI cable from your laptop into the TV, BOOM you're now watching the movie on your TV. That's all I want to do except with my PC. But thats proven to be very difficult.
I plugged the HDMI cord that was connected to my TV into the HDMI port on my GPU. ( I already have my computer monitor connected to my GPU using DVI). Nothing showed up on my TV. I figure its a resolution issue so I open up my GPU settings to try to figure it out. On the default display settings I can see the TV has been detected, if I selected duplicate screen, nothing happens. I have a Radeon graphics card and when i go to those display settings, the best option Ive seen so far is creating a "Display Group" with Eyefinity. But that just extends my display on to the TV, which is what I do't want. I tried pressing the windows key + P and messed with some of those settings and now whenever I plug the HDMI cord into the TV my computer monitor shuts off. I AM FRUSTRATE.
