ALL icons missing/blank (desktop, taskbar, explorer)

Hi all,

• 
  - Had the laptop hooked up to the TV last night via HDMI
  - Unplugged, then closed lid - putting it to sleep
  - Turned on today, no icons whatsoever.
  
  
  - Tried restarting the laptop
  - Tried restarting 'explorer.exe'

Any tips for getting them back? It's annoying the hell out of me!

When I open the explorer when uploading or downloading something, the icons are there..

How are the two displays configured?
Mirrored, extended?

The laptop may be thinking the TV is the main display, and has all the icons on there.
But since it isn't connected, you don't see them.

It was in 'Duplicate' mode at the time.

I've just hooked it back up, then set it to 'extend' but the same blank icons appear..
I then ensured that my laptop was set to the main display but still no icons :/

Update:

I’ve tried:
• Connection via HDMI
• Connection via RGB
• All projection modes
• Disconnection via pulling out the cable
• Disconnection via cancelling the projection through Windows
• Rebooting in-between each instance

Still in the same annoying position…
Any ideas?
