All PCs in house have slow connection

My friend has been having issues with his connection over the last few days. All of the PCs in the house are wireless and experience the same issue - extremely slow speed.

Websites like speedtest show a good connection (<10ms ping, 60Mbps down/30Mbps up) on all devices, and Windows acts like there is a connection, but all devices other than his fail to load websites most of the time, and his ping spikes to 500+ for less than 2-3 seconds at a time when playing games.

He recently got a new router from Optimum - his ISP - and it was free, and I suspect it's a cheap router at the root of the problem. The router is a DIR-868L. As for number of connected devices, there are 6 of them - 3 PCs, 2 iPods and 1 iPhone.

Anyone know what's wrong?

The dir-868L:

He might be losing packets from his internet provider. That a little hard to narrow down. Usually bypass the router and see if the connection improves. Do an extended ping to somewhere can help show if packets are lost or not. Also matter what signal strength they are getting. The lower/worse it is, the slower it gets.
