Im upgrading my pc to a much more power demanding spec and Im worried that my Allied 400watt PSU may not be up to the challenge.

The unit is over 1 year old but has ran my 2.0Ghz XP2400+ and my Gf4 Ti4200 on a Soyo KT400 Ultra with no problems what so ever, But what im upgrading to might be too much for the old dog and i need to know if i should upgrade it also. This is the upgrade im going for...

Gigabyte K8N SLI 939 Motherboard

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (Venice)

XFX Geforce 6600 GT 128mb PCIxE SLI (just one at this point)

Hitachi Deskstar K780 80Gb SATA II 3.0Gb/s

1 Gig of DDR400 (Rosewill brand - yes i know its cheap but it will work for now)

Ive read that this type of system spec needs at the least a 400 watt PSU and thats what i have but the brand is what im not sure of... is it atleast a decent brand? Also I would assume that the PCIxE bus uses alot more power than the AGPx8 i have now.... while hte CPU runs at the same clock speed as my 2400 i know of its blistering fast FSB and that too concerns me. Imput would be welcome, I also need to know if there are any possible damage concerns that can result from stressing a PSU passed its usable limits. I dont want to spend all this money on new parts only to have them burn up in a blaze of glory.

Heres the link the the PSU, Allied is an APEX side-brand i assume ...

If you haven't had problems with it so far, I think your Allied power supply will be up to the task. My experience with them tells me they are pretty decent for a budget power supply. Ditch the Rosewill and take Wintec AMPO memory.

Wintec AMPO ?

Well ill keep that in mind.... ive been using Rosewill for the past year and havent had any problems as far as reliability so for now ill use it untill i can afford something better.

Yeah, you shouldn't have any problems running the new rig with that supply. If you do, you'll know right at startup. Most newer systems require 350 to 400 watts minimum to power them up.

Allied made by Deer, one of the worst manufacturers, but if it's any consolation, Allied is their best brand.

A good 300W supply, such as Fortron (FSP, Sparkle) should be more than adequate, and any 350W that can't power your upgrade has something seriously wrong with it.
