Allocating RAM in Dual CPU System

Hi!,
I have HP xw9400 with AMD Opteron 2222 DUAL CPUs ( 2 physical CPUs installed) . My question is that in bios I see that for cpu 0 it have 4 gb ram and for cpu 1 it have 8 gb ram. So is there any drawback in performance ?

How are the sticks of ram allocated in your system i.e: populated on your motherboard? Ideally you should have the same amount of ram on both CPU's in order to achieve optimal performance.

same is not working as I have total 12 gb :

2x4gb = 8 gb
4x1gb = 4 gb

when I put the 4 gb stick to one cpu and other 4 gb stick to other it does not work and give red beaps.. I have to put both 4 gb stick to same cpu ... this means that I have to put 8 gb for one cpu and 4 gb to other..
I have 8 slots ... 4 slots per cpu..
