HI,

I have a WD 1TB black HDD and while i was formatting it i noticed first time "allocation unit size".
What is this, what should i set it?
I have searched on the google, but i am not getting the correct answer.
Please help me guys..:)

Solution
The larger the allocation unit size, the faster the drive will perform. The smaller the allocation size, the less "wasted space" will be used by small files. With a 1TB HDD, typically you should set it to max size (4096kb I believe). I have never changed any of the drives from the default size in years....

HI,
Should i go as 4096 for window drive?
And some other for movie drive, where i store movie... ad what should i kept for movie?
And for games?

Everybody is throwing around general lingos such as small file size and large file size...
But is there really a written consensus, in terms of how much KB, MB, or GB is a small/medium/large file size?

In another words... what I consider small may not be what another person considered to be small.

Where do you draw the line?

I deal with file sizes in TB - mainly database files. A large file size is typically more than what can be emailed by an average email program (typically between 5MB and 10MB in size). There is no "rule" that dictates what is a large file size....

Small files are anything less than 5MB-10MB... Just my opinion...

Thank you for your input.
