I recently upgraded to Windows 7 from XP. I have discovered that I now can no longer cut/copy & paste a password into the pop up username/password window in IE. I used to be able to do this in XP, but in Win7 when i paste I see many more asterisks than there are letters in the password I am trying to paste and the password is never accepted by the web page. Apparently this is a "security" feature, but I just find it an annoyance. Does anyone know of a setting or reg edit to allow pasting in the password field?

TIA

Zoron, you mean IE 9, IE 8 allows the cut feature in the username field.

I don't think Zoron's answer addresses the question. The question was not about best practice, it was a about a delta in default functionality of a new operating system or, more likely as Zoron pointed out, an Application running under a new OS.

As, I understand, IE 9 cannot be run on anything before Windows 7 then it is a fair assumption that the problem is directed at Windows 7. Zorons reply made me modify my Google search, so it was useful in that respect.

Either way we are still stuck with the specific issue that you cannot cut from the username field. You can paste in both username and password fields but cutting has been disabled by default.

Comments about whether this is a good/wise/secure thing to do etc should be directed at other forums; this change in behaviour is costing me time. Does anyone know how to re-enable this?

Thank you in advance
