Hello,
I bought a Seagate Expansion Drive (STEA 1000400) 1 TB 3 days ago. It was performing as expected up untile today. Today I noticed write speed of it has become extremely slow and inconsistent. Like it is 300-400kb for 1 second, then for 3 second it's 0kb, then again after it peaks at 350-400 kb before falling to 0kb again.

There are no official Seagate support in my country. I can go to the store but it's gonna be a long holiday vacation in our country soon and I might get it fixed from them after 2-3 weeks for that. So I wanted to know if I can fix it myself somehow.

Formatting it is going to be very tedious as backup-ing backing it up at this speed will take days as I've already put more than 600GB of contents in it before it started to show problems. Windows error check has been already performed and windows defragment shows 0% fragmentation.

use the tool from seagate to check the HDD, eventually update its firmware with it if available

be sure you connect it to an USB 3 port

try a different USB 3 port
try a different USB 3 cable

check windows integrity
open the command prompt as administrator and type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

clean boot

check your RAM as well by running memtest.org usb autoinstaller (bootable USB flash drive)

reinstall/update your chipset driver

Late update. The hdd issue fixed automatically after some time. I didn't do anything specific.

There was no issue with the file I was transferring. After getting fixed the same file was transferring normally. There wasn't any issue with the PC too as it was performing the same at other PCs. Don't know what happened.
