I bought an Alphacool Eisbaer Extreme after seeing their shop listing that confirmed LGA1700 compatibility. Thing is, neither the printed manual enclosed with the product nor the PDF available from the site give instructions for LGA1700 installation. One backplate has sliding screwholes that look like they do the 78mm spacing for LGA1700, but that still means I'd be installing without exactly following the manufacturer's instructions.

I believe the CPU block in the Eisbaer Extreme is based on the Eisblock XPX, and I noticed that there is a backplate available separately for retrofitting the XPX to LGA1700, but the Eisbaer Extreme is not listed as compatible with it, and this backplate is not included with my cooler.

Has anyone here installed the Eisbaer Extreme to the LGA1700 socket? If so, what procedure did you follow (eg did you fit it the same way as an 115x)? Did you find the separately purchased backplate necessary for LGA1700 installation?

Solution
LGA1700 brought two changes to cooler mounts.
1) The backplate hole dimensions became a bit wider.
You seem to be ok there.
2) The 12th gen processors are a bit thinner.
This requires an adjustment depending on how the cooler is clamped
down. With insufficient pressure, contact is not as good and cooler efficiency is impaired. It is reasonable to go ahead and install the cooler.
When done, look at the temperatures. You should see 10-15c. over ambient
at idle, and acceptable performance under load.
What motherboard? Some of them have LGA1200/115x holes.

Might also try Alphacool support.

Only 3mm difference between. 75mm vs 78mm hole spacing, so if it doesn't go smoothly it probably needs the new bracket. I would go ahead and ask for it and and give it a try.

MSI Z690 Carbon Wifi, sadly it doesn’t have the dual holes. So if the included bracket does fit, you think it’s reasonable to just go ahead? I have emailed Alphacool support and posted in their forum, but I guess I won’t hear from them until next week…

So there isn't risk of damage (provided I'm vigilant about checking the temps after fitting), worst case is it won't fit or won't provide sufficient pressure, in which case I'll have to wait for the other backplate. Thanks for explaining, much appreciated
