This has been something I had to deal with on this system for awhile, finally got fed up with it. Basically its a computer given to me over 2 years ago, Area 51 super tower with the A11 Bios on it I believe. I7 970 at 3.2ghz not OCed, new GTX 970 G1 Windforce, 12 Gigs of 2000 MHZ XMS Corsair Ram, set to 1600 MHZ due to the Motherboard limits, voltage and timings all set properly. SB Titanium Card currently unused due to using a Turtle beach PC 7.1 headset that uses its own software. But this problem has occured before with the previous graphics card and it tends to only happen at certain spots in gaming.
For example, in FFXIV their was a Cutscene where the PC would shut off then back on. Heating wasnt the issue, I turned off Cinematic Depth of Field, problem stopped. Elder Scrolls Skyrim a Player created Land mod, their was a area I went to in it, if I went to a certain part of a cave in this mod, PC powers off, then back on, happened every time I went to that part.
Witcher 3, Griffin coming down to take the bait scene, Power off, tried again, power off, I turned down a setting or two, didnt happen again. Go to fight the Foglet contract, lots of fog effects, including my igni sign, power off, turned shadows and Detail level from High to Medium, power off, turned everything to Medium, Power off. I pretty much can gallop thru the whole friggen world, turn everything to ultra if I want to, but for whatever reason when something that seems like it needs a BURST of graphical processing power comes up, Power off.
Ran tests on CPU, GPU, RAM, Hard Drive fan never goes past 55, the extra PCI E Fan that helps cool the GPU never goes past 35 percent. This Alienware system has that active venting system where the top is open with a grid on it, so all the hot air just gets sucked right out of it on the top and the back, so again, cooling is NOT the issue, Unless its possible that somehow the CPU is going from 65-70C to TJMax in less than 10 seconds? Pretty much I ordered a new PSU, one of those Tier 1 EVGAs 850 Watt Gold Certified full Modular, awesome PSU, beautiful PSU. Yet I get the depressing feeling that once I manage to install that beauty, which will take alot of effort, their is ALOT of things I have to plug things into on this Alienware motherboard, I just, get the depressing feeling that the computer god hates me, and I will still get power offs during those high graphical moments.
Can anyone advise me further? Please?
