Alternative KVM solutions

Looking for a way to share Two DVI/HDMI monitors, mouse, keyboard and other random usb 3.0 devices between my home desktop and work labtop. All the kvm's I can find online with USB 3.0 and DVI/HDMI are at least $150. Seems very expensive for a switch... any alternative out there?

Patience. USB 3.0 is still too new to be considered mainstream for KVMs.

what about remote desktop? Seems like keeping a laptop plugged in (connected to keyboard, mouse and monitor) takes away its portability.

So.... You VPN into work from home, and then start RDP.

Use something like goto my PC, or teamviewer.

How about just getting a (or 2) HDMI switch for your monitors and a usb hub and plug these into whatever device you are using at the time. You got to plug them in when you want to switch but that should do the same job (i think).

You want to save money you have to compromise.

Yea, thinking the usb hub swap and source swap on the monitors will have to do for now. Not spending more than $50 on a KVM lol.

Its a pain but it will be less cable swapping and you wont have to keep pulling the tower out of wherever it is to get at the cables.
